GUILDIVE's spacious accommodations include 2 large cabins, 3 heads, galley, and main salon.  Her pilothouse offers splendid 360° views from the helm and open-air settees that allow for comfort and relief from ocean weather and the sun.  The roomy engine space affords plenty of storage and mechanical access.  On deck she has generous space on her foredeck and plenty of seating around her raised cabin top along with more sitting and standing room on her stern.  GUILDIVE possesses ample freeboard granting a keen height of eye for the watch officer and vacationer.  She is pleasant in all waters and doesn't suffer wakes from passer-bys, this makes her a sure-footed boat for all ages and experience levels.  Her current owners have kept her in prime condition with many upgrades on deck, down below, and in the engine room.

Accommodations and Cabins

The Masters Cabin, aft, accommodates 3.  It has a double bunk, with a Tempur Pedic mattress on the port side and a single bunk on the starboard side. The cabin contains plenty of storage with ample drawer space, closet, and shelving.  The cabin also has a desk, reflex diesel heater, and a head.  


Moving forward from the Masters Cabin, through the Pilothouse (see Deck and Pilothouse for further description) and down into the Main Salon there are 2 single bunks and a dinette which coverts into a double bunk.  The main salon feels very large due to the spacious layout and the 8' overheads.  Directly down the ladder on the port side of boat is a head with a Natures Head composting toilet, new in 2012.  Going forward on the port side is a two-person settee, reflex heater, and two single bunks.  On the starboard side, aft to forward, is the dinette that will accommodate 4 comfortably and the roomy galley.  The Galley features a open top refrigerator/ freezer,  a deep slate sink basin with both pressure and foot pump for water, and a 4 burner propane stove and oven.  The propane is kept on deck in a dedicated locker with a solenoid switch.  The propane tanks, hosing, and solenoid switch are new as of 2012.  Under the sole in the main salon is the 200 gallon water tank, new in 2013.  


Forward of the main cabin is more berthing for 5, head, and closet.  On the starboard side of the forward cabin is a double bunk and single bunk along with a tall closet.  The port side has 2 single bunks with drawer space underneath.  The compartment is very bright with a overhead skylight and forward hatch for ventilation.  Forward of the double bunk is the anchor chain locker.  The forward head, in the bow of the boat, contains a LAVAC head and GROHE sink and shower faucet. The head sole is a teak grate with a large holding tank and sump pump.  Forward of the head, through the water tight bulkhead, is a forepeak for storage.  


Deck and Pilothouse

GUILDIVE's spacious deck forward has plenty of space for sitting and standing.  She has a raised forward hatch with a Lexan skylight and sliding hatch.  Just aft, on either side of the Main mast are teak deck boxes.  One houses the propane for the galley and the other for storage.  She has a large raised deck house made of 1" marine plywood sheathed with 6oz glass cloth and epoxy coating.  Aft of the pilothouse is another raised cabin top (reinforced with glass and epoxy) and sturdy after rails to stand against on the stern.  The deck is 3/8" teak applied over 3 layers of 1/2" sub plywood deck.  All the deck seams were redone with Teak Decking Systems in 2010.


The pilothouse is spacious enough for 10 or more people and offers relief from the wind and provides plenty of shade while offering 360 views of the area.  Forward is the helm, original to the vessel with the Wheeler Shipyard inscription on the back side of the wheel and construction plate (hull 604) below the helm.  The chart table has ample working space and houses the electronics along with a striking Kelvin White compass.  A heavily built sliding bench is aft of the helm with a fold up teak table on the port side of the cabin.  The after section of the cabin can be opened with roll up curtains (new in 2010) or closed from the breeze or rain with clear full length vinyl inserts.  The after section is a perfect place to sit on one of the two long settees with great visibility.

Sails and Rigging

GUILDIVE is gracious under sail, well balanced and can handle light breezes with ease.  She carries approximately 1800 sq. ft. of sail area in her Main, Mizzen, Stays'l and Genoa. Her Main and Genoa are new as 2012, heavily constructed with 9oz dacron sail cloth.  The mizzen, of similar construction, is new as of 2013 and a stays’l is new as of 2014.  She also carries an asymmetrical spinnaker, storm trysail and storm jib.  The headsails are rolled using Shaffer furlers and the main and mizzen slide along Tides Marine low friction tracks.   


The masts are Sitka Spruce and painted to keep in tradition of William Hand design.  Her main has double spreaders while her mizzen has a single set.  Her rigging is 1x19 stainless wire.  


Mechanical and Electrical 

GUILDIVE's machinery, batteries and fuel tankage is located below the pilothouse where there is ample space for tools, spares, lubricants and miscellany storage.  The overall dimensions are 12' X 16' with 2 hatch accesses. The main engine is a Detriot Diesel 4-71 with 50 hours on it after the rebuild in 2015; the generator engine is an Isuzu Model QD-27, 2-cylinder engine with a Lima SN series 10kw generator with 2100 hours.  There are 4 individual 10 guage steel fuel tanks creating almost 600 gallons capacity.  There are port/stbd fuel fills and each tank is in good repair with no corrosion or rust.  Fuel is supplied to both generator and main engine through Racor fuel filters before the engine mounted primary fuel filters.  Propulsion is transferred via the Capitol Marine Gear 3:1 reduction gearbox to the 2" stainless Aquamet 22 main shaft with a 32X28 full feathering Luke propeller.  The shaft linkage is made up of a primary shaft and a stump shaft to allow in-water service of the propeller.  The Luke propeller is well matched to manage Guildive's 46ton displacement and offers ample power in forward and reverse through all tide, current and sea conditions. The potable water system was renewed in 2011 with PEX piping, new pressure tank, 32volt pump and new storage tank in 2013.  The hot water system is heated through both heat exchange with the main engine and 120volt water heater. 

Electrical power is managed through 3 battery banks: 2-32volt banks and 1-12volt bank, all new 2012.  Charging the batteries is accomplished through the main engine alternator for 32volt banks and the generator alternator for the 12volt bank.  Additionally, there are two AC 120volt 12volt chargers and one AC 120volt 32volt charger for shore power supplied battery charging.   Guildive's electrical panel is divided between 32volt,12volt and 120volt systems.  The 32volt system includes the majority of house and deck lighting, navigational lights, radar, 32volt/120volt inverter, potable water and shower discharges while the 12volt system operates navigational equipment (AIS, NEMA-2000 Weather Station), VHF Radio, LED house lighting, Sounder, cook stove solenoids, stereo, blowers and fans.  All wiring is modern construction and sized accordingly allowing for potential expansion of 12volt or change to 24volt systems.  The AC 120volt system is supplied via the Lima generator or via shore power connection.  The shore power connection is provided through an Isolation Transformer.  The AC 120volt system provides power for the refrigeration/freezer unit, battery charging, hot water heater and standard 120volt outlets in the main cabin, engine room and aft cabin.  

Deck Equipment, Anchors, and Safety Equipmet

GUILDIVE is a great compromise of period design and modern sail handling equipment.  The sheets are controlled by 5 bronze self tailing Barient winches while the 4 halyards are bronze reel-winches.  All deck cleats and chocks are bronze and she has a forward Sampson post and after bits for docking.  On the stern is an electric capstan while on the bow she has a Lunenburg Windlass.  Her main working anchor is a 100lb CQR with 4 shots of anchor chain.  The first 200 feet of chain is housed about 8' aft of the bow and the rest further aft.  On the bow there is a seawater wash down spigot and an outlet for a search light or anchor light.  On the transom is heavy gauge aluminum davits capable of holding a 500 lb dingy.  She also has a teak fold down swim deck with an aluminum swim ladder.

GUILDIVE's History

GUILDIVE has had an impressive history starting with her build on Coney Island, NY at the Wheeler Shipyard in 1934, originally given the name RESTLESS.  She was built to William Hand Jr.'s design who is recognized as one of the most respected yacht designer of the 20th century.  She was first under the ownership of a well know politician and business man from Long Island.  She spent much of her early life in the waters of Long Island, New York Harbor, and New Jersey.  After a few owners she was taken into the WWII coastal picket force and used as a patrol vessel along the New Jersey and Long Island shores.  A few pieces from that time are still shown on the boat.  She returned to private ownership and was taken to Marblehead.  After her time in New England she was sold and brought to the Caribbean.  The owners were one of the first people in the Caribbean to offer charters in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Many of her past guests and crew still remember her down there.  Sold in 1980, an extensive 8 year refit in Puerto Rico was completed and they continued to own her for a total of 30 years.  The vessel, at that time, cruised the coast of the United States and Canada and was well outfitted for cruising and double handed sailing.  Presently GUILDIVE is used as a day and over night charter business along the east coast ranging from the Chesapeake Bay to the Penobscot Bay, Maine.
