This vessel, on only its second owner, was extremely well cared for during her first ownership, and has been refit with an eye towards traditional, yet is enhanced with major upgrades for digital data analysis. She is used not only for pleasure, also for oceanography and sea research charter. When you step aboard and cruise out of the harbor on a passage, you get the impression that she is rock solid and will sustain anything the sea can present to her. Her current owner is considered a very clever, thoughtful, and capable boat builder. A wonderful job of refitting her to the standards she was intended is evident both above deck and below.
The Sportsman 40 accommodation is a galley down with two twin beds in main salon and a double berth in the forepeak which is through a dedicated and complete galley. On deck she is extremely well equipped for coastal passage making.
Her Detroit Diesels are twin 8.2 liter 200 HP each.
Her bottom was replaced recently and coated with 10oz. Cloth, epoxy coated.
She currently resides in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, her Winter berth, and will return to Pocasset, MA once again in Spring for her research and personal cruising venue.
Her bottom was redone and glassed.
Every surface of the vessel has been recoated, inside and out with professional yacht coatings appropriate to each specific area.
Any instrumentation was tested and suspect instruments were replaced with original equipment wherever possible.
Her navigation instrumentation is networked into a ship-wide system that can be accessed by windows driven navigation siftware that allows researchers or scientists enhanced data review of surrounding currents, water data, and weather data.
