"I want a boat that drinks 6, eats 4, and sleeps 2". This is what Ernest K. Gann said to Jay Benford (Yacht Designer) about what they were looking for when designing this particular boat. Strumpet emerged from the dreams of Ernest Gann and was built by Jensen Shipyard in Friday Harbor, WA. Designed and built with a sense of Romance and Practicality, Strumpet is a single diesel powered, trawler yacht that exudes strength, sturdiness, an appreciation for history, grace, purposefulness and privacy. Here you will find a vessel that has been constantly cared for and updated. The current owners have enjoyed Strumpet for 27 years, but it is time to move ashore. She is truly a Unique Vessel for a Discerning Yachtsman.
Strumpet is located offsite. Please contact Scott James 757-570-3944 to ask questions and make a boarding Appointment.
Strumpet is powered by a single 6 cyl 108hp Ford Diesel engine. The engine was rebuilt by Transatlantic Diesel in 2006 and has 582 hrs sinch this overhaul. The engine room is clean, tiday, brightly lit with easy access to all 4 sides of the engine and transmission. There is a wide assortment of spare parts, tools, etc. The engine is equipped with an oil pan heater, and oil change system and portable pump. Engine service and Oil Analysis history is included in Engine Manuals that are on the boat.
Strupmet once served as a training vessel for US Coast Guard Inspectors, and therefore she is likely to be the "most frequently inspected" vessel on the East Coast. Here is a quick rundown of the safety equipment.
There is a full size Chart Table located on the port side of the Pilothouse. Beneath the Chart table are storage drawers (suitable for paper charts), IN FACT, all NOAA paper charts from Chesapeake Bay to FL are included, plus the Vessel Library (book shelf) is located beneath, complete with Engine Manual, Service and Maintenance manual, Electrical manual, Pump/Gear manual, Documentation manual, etc.
Compact yet functional, the galley is located 2 steps down from the Pilothouse. To your right is the Force 10 Stainless Steel 3 burner stove with oven. The stove/oven is propane fired and sits flush, with counter space beside, a convenient spice rack is within easy reach above, and there is a large opening portlight for light and fresh air. Turn around and you will have the Stainless steel sink, with hi-rise combination faucet, counter top, dual voltage Refrigerator/freezer located under the counter.
The enclosed head is located behind a sliding Mahogany door, with an AirHead Composting toilet installed in 03/11, fresh water sink, large overhead hatch and working portlight. The shower has been converted into a Dry Pantry for food storage.
Fresh water is carried in a pair of stainless steel water tanks, that are 95 gallons each. The fresh water pump and the 2 gallon Pressure tank were both replaced in 05/14.
Strumpet was conceived from the dreams of the famous author Ernest K. Gann, designed by Jay Benford and built by the Jensen Shipyard in Friday Harbor, WA. Built in the style of husky, Scottish commercial fishing vessels, she is practical, efficient, sea worthy and serviceable. She has been described as a 60' Yacht in a 35' body. Her construction is of Mahogany and Alaskan cedar planking on steam bent White Oak frames, placed on 10" centers. Stem and stern posts are Gumwood and a Fir keel.
She requires very little effort to drive, slipping through the water easily, riding level, leaving very little wake behind her.
