The Nelson/Marek Morgan 45’ is not to be mistaken with any other Morgan…it is TRULY a unique and rare boat, as only 29 of these incredible racer/cruisers, were ever built.

In SOUTHWINDS Magazine, November 2008 issue, author and sailor, Harmon Heed, wrote in his review of the Morgan 45, "BIG!", "Fast", "Beautiful", "Strong!", "Sea-kindly!" “Those are terms inevitably used when describing the  Nelson/Marek designed Morgan 45 Sloop. I have personally e crewed on the Morgan 45, ‘HALLELUJAH’ for three years and personally, I think they're understatements." 

Known both for winning more than their share of ocean races through the years, the Morgan 45 Nelson/Marek is also known by experienced racers and cruisers alike, as having one of the most comfortable, voluminous and luxurious interiors…just simply a wonderful liveaboard cruising yacht which affords spacious storage lockers, a professional Navigators station that has room for a full array of navtronics, and a large liveable main saloon and staterooms!!!

In The Owner’s Words:  

We purchased the boat in 2009 from the original owner on Lake Erie. Over the next month we sailed it back to St. Joseph, Michigan where we began updating the equipment with the intention of living on board while traveling to the Bahamas. For four years we sailed on Lake Michigan and worked to add the equipment and features we wanted. We made numerous crossings to Chicago and Milwaukee and one circumnavigation of Lake Michigan.

For our final upgrades we moved the boat up the Lake to Charlevoix, Michigan for the winter of 2012/2013. We were able to leave on the 4th of July, 2013 and headed for Lake Superior. We spent the next two months cruising the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway to Montreal then back to Oswego, NY where we entered the Oswego canal. The day we entered the dam at lock #13 on the Erie canal was closed for “Serious Damage” from scouring around the center piling.  The Erie was closed for 3 weeks and it took us 24 days to travel from Oswego, NY to Waterford, NY.

We then traveled down the Hudson stopping at Ossining for some train/bus trips into the city and to White Plains. From Ossining we traveled down the New Jersey coast making several overnight stops and then on to Norfolk, VA where we stopped for several weeks to visit friends.

While there we had new canvas, a Bimini and full “glass type” enclosure added. From Norfolk we took the ICW all the way to Riviera Beach and Lake Worth/Palm Beach Inlet and our Florida home port.

We left the boat in Riviera Beach for the Holidays and wintered in the Keys and Bahama’s. We spent two summers traveling up the coast to Maine then back south stopping in Norfolk for maintenance and friends. Our trips North and South were mainly outside along the coast after the first Southward trip. We made much faster time and experienced “life at sea” for extended periods.

Our final trip was to New Orleans.  We visited John Pennakamp State Park, the West Coast of Florida for the first time and stayed in Panama City for three weeks mainly due to weather. We met family in New Orleans staying at the South Shore Marina for the week. The return leg was to Gulfport, MS for fuel and water then on South making for the Dry Tortugas. We passed North of the Tortugas in total darkness and rounded up for Key Largo and Pennakamp. The return trip took 5 days at sea during which we saw zero vessels crossing the Gulf of Mexico.

 

We’ve had a wonderful 7 years with TINACA and have really enjoyed the 15,000 + miles we’ve logged during that time. Unfortunately due to some physical limitation I’m beginning to incur we have decided to move ashore and enjoy retirement in other ways."
