OFFSHORE ATLANTIC YACHTS
Beautiful teak joinery throughout, all doors are beveled and hand fitted, lockers are teak lined and the varnished cabin sole is teak and holly plank. The interior is finished with a satin varnish.
Teak doors are louvered. Headroom is 6’4” or better throughout the boat and storage capacity can only be noted as “incredible” in a 3-cabin, custom layout. There are 11-S.S. opening and screened ports, 5-opening and screened hatches, plus the main companionway hatch, 5-deck prisms and 5-dorade vents for the optimum in ventilation and light below decks.
“BLUE HORIZON” sleeps up to six people in accommodations with the forward cabin, main salon and owners cabin. The unique forward cabin design has large V-berth with filler cushion and dressing seat under, with V-berth filler removed. There is storage under this seat as well. There are 2-good sized drawers and 2-louvered lockers under the V-berth. 2-Large Louvered Double doors most forward, access the ships chain locker, and there is a large shelf over the most forward section of the V-berth for storage. Outboard are ¾ length louvered lockers port and starboard and double bookshelves the remaining length of the outboard port and starboard. Overhead is a large hatch forward and a small hatch at the aft end of the berth, both with custom hinged teak screens. Cabin lights, fan and dorade complete this cabins ventilation and lighting. Also in the forward cabin, to port, is a tall highboy with good sized hanging locker under and louvered storage cabinet over.
The forward traditional TAYANA Signature Carved teak door separates the main saloon from the forward stateroom, thus giving guests in the forward cabin completely separate and private quarters.
The starboard head is just aft of the V-berth, with pressure hot and cold water with an oval porcelain basin, a large separate shower stall with locker space outboard and teak grate underfoot, a generous louvered locker space with storage cabinet under the basin, 3-storage lockers next to the basin, and 1-large storage cabinet outboard.
To port of the head is a lowboy with 4-large dresser sized drawers under and louvered storage cabinet over.
In the main saloon there is large comfortable, “L” shaped settee to starboard and solid teak table with 2-large leaves, top bin storage and 4-drawers at the forward end, which folds out and seats 8 comfortably. There are 3-large drawers under the starboard settee, bookshelves with mirror behind, 2-large louvered outboard cabinets, storage behind settee cushions, a deck prism for additional natural light and a teak trimmed bulkhead mounted mirror.
To port, you will find a long straight settee with cabinets and bookshelves outboard to match the starboard side and 2-long drawers under. There are also 4-doreades in the main salon, along with opening screened hatch and opening and screened S.S. ports. Cushions are neutral and are easy to accent with traditional nautical theme or a more contemporary styling.
Aft of the large and accommodating main salon and to starboard, is the classic “wrap around” “U” shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside, with 8-deep drawers, extensive louvered lockers, large dry storage bin, dual S.S. lined and well insulated refrigerator boxes which are large capacity. There is a S.S. sink unit, which incorporates 2-deep stainless steel bowels, fully gimbaled 3 burner S.S. stove, generous counter space, over cabinets and over/under counter stowage, plus behind companionway steps there is additional storage and wet hanging locker. The owners have converted one of the deep drawers in the galley, to a custom knife drawer, for those gourmets, whose cooking cutlery is so very important.
There is a dorade vent port over the galley and 3-opening screened S.S. ports in this area as well, for added ventilation.
Directly across from the galley, to port, is an aft facing navigation station and chart table with tremendous room for an exceptional compliment of navigation and electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The large nav table/desk has generous storage under the desk top and room for the additional electronic navigation and communication equipment outboard.
The master stateroom features a large double berth with 2-drawers under a lowboy bureau with 4-drawers, a full length hanging locker, large storage shelf at end of berth, 3-S.S. opening ports for maximum cross ventilation, fan, deck prism and bi-fold louvered teak door.
“BLUE HORIZON” incorporates a high degree of custom furniture and cabinetry and throughout the boat, there are custom rods installed for future curtains. The interior woods are the finest teaks, cabin sole is teak and holly with locking floorboards, in the traditional manner and the interior is custom built for this original owner.
Below deck ventilation is superior and far surpasses the standards in the industry, with 11-S.S. screened opening ports, 5-opening screened hatches plus the screened companionway hatch, 5-dorade ventilators and 5-deck prisms.
IN THE OWNER’S WORDS:
We purchased our 1988 Tayana Vancover 42 upon retirement and relocation to the Charleston, SC area in 2004. Since that time, we have enjoyed cruising the Atlantic from Sorrento Maine, the Bahamas and even as far south as Trinidad. We replaced and upgraded the engine in 2005 to a Yanmar 54 and have replaced the generator twice, currently with a Northern Lights 5KW. Our enclosed cockpit has allowed us to sail comfortably in cold and rainy weather.
We often have spent months out cruising. In 2006 we went to Maine and back enjoying the Chesapeake Bay sites, Long Island Sound, Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown, and many anchorages in Maine. In 2007 we first explored south of Charleston and over to the Abacos. In 2009, we sailed down the Florida coast and across to the Exumas as far as Georgetown, over to Eleuthra and Harbor Island, and then stopped off in the Abacos for Race Week before returning to Charleston. In 2010, we explored the southern coast down to Key West. Feb., 2011 we sailed from Charleston to the Virgin Islands and then island hopped to Trinidad. In 2012, we returned to Trinidad and proceeded back north again visiting various Caribbean Islands and sailed from St. Thomas to Charleston. We often cruise and explore the various anchorages near Charleston over long weekends. “Blue Horizon” has allowed us to expand our horizons and have a comfortable home on the water while we do it. We have always felt safe off shore in our blue water boat. You can share our adventures on our blog at email@example.com.
