This famous 81’ Maxi was built for the 1989 Volvo Around the World Race. The yacht has been owned by the same experienced racing syndicate since 1995 which has constantly maintained and upgraded it.
Most recently in 2011 over $50,000 of service and upgrades were done to the rigging and over $250,000 were spent in new high tech racing sails. Between 2009 and 2011 a new engine, new generator, isolation transformer, diesel heater and water maker were added. The bottom was stripped, faired, epoxy primed and painted with anti-fouling paint and the hull, interior and deck were repainted as well.
In May 2013 I was on hand for a full inspection and survey while the yacht was launched, sea-trialed and fully prepped for a transatlantic crossing and then hauled. It is extremely strong and shows absolutely no signs of deformation, movement or distortion in hull, deck or any structural members. Condition is fully operational and excellent.
The yacht is very competitive under a variety of rules including IRC.

The accommodations are built as an open area. The forward section of the cabin is fitted for sail stowage and a 2 heads, one of which has a shower. Astern of mast is a tools area and stowage for deck gear and spare parts. There are a total of 20 adjustable pipe berths including four removable pipe berths in the forepeak. Amidship is the main hatch, galley and nav station aft of it. Galley with propane stove, 3 burner, and oven, 2 sinks and fridge. There is an additional freezer unit as well.
