SUMMER CLOUD is a Carriacou sloop hand built using traditional methods by Baldwin DeRoche on the neighbouring island of Petit Martinique in the Grenadines, and has very fine lines.
Carriacou sloops have been built by master craftsmen on the beaches of these two neighbouring Caribbean islands using traditional skills passed down over the generations.
Originally conceived as trading vessels for inter-island cargo there has developed a series of competitive regattas for these marques, now held up and down the Eastern Caribbean islands, from Grenada to St Barths, including the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta where they have their own class.
This yacht was painstakingly rebuilt in 2010 by Woodstock Boatbuilders in Antigua, lengthened from 39' to 42' and optimised to win races. She is in excellent condition and a fast classic racing yacht.
In addition to replacing the planking and bulwarks above the waterline with pine and cedar on bronze fastenings, the floors, stringers, knees and interior planking were all renewed.
Additional external ballast has been let into the keel to enable the boat to carry a taller rig, and is available with two rigs, one a traditional wooden spar, the other aluminium, together with an aluminium boom and carbon bowsprit.
The original 3 cylinder Yanmar engine has been removed but is available with the boat and can be re-installed.
There are two berths in the saloon plus two more forward and a compact removable galley.
More than $150,000 has been spent (at cost) on the restoration of this fine and very fast sloop and she is now available for a fraction of the money already spent.
