The Westernman 40 gaff cutter was designed by Nigel Irens and Ed Burnett with a number of examples being built by the Covey Island Boatworks in Nova Scotia. Strip plank Douglas Fir construction making her very light and strong. Known as a very fast design, this boat won the Pilot Cutter Regatta on two occasions with very impressive race victories. The space below decks is phenomenal with 7 berths including a double quarter cabin and two heads. A traditional looking yacht combined with the benefits of modern design and materials to create a fast, comfortable and eminently capable cruising yacht.

Wooden Ships Comments
Designed by Nigel Irens and Ed Burnett and built by the Covey Island Boatworks, Nova Scotia in 1998. One of a number of boats built to the same design.
Imported to the UK shortly after her build she has cruised extensively around the British Isles and raced very successfully in the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter fleet, winning the annual regatta on two occasions.
She underwent a major refit in the previous professional shipwright ownership due to damage from fresh water ingress. The underlying causes were ironed out as well as repairs being completed under the guidance of a local surveyor so she is now a sound, solid and well found yacht.
The finish employed and the method of construction mean the maintenance is perhaps less than expected and in the present ownership is mostly carried out by a willing family team. They have proved that she can be a fast regatta boat, but is also a very comfortable family cruising yacht with berths for up to 8 if desired but easily managed by only two.
