Mild steel construction, all welding and plate sizes and increments to A.B.S. or equivalent specifications. Fair round bilge hull above waterline with multi-chine below and ballasted keel. Plate thickness all to A.B.S. specifications varying from 6mm to 15mm.
All winch bases, bollards, piping, flanges, chainplates, rubrails etc. have been hot dip galvanized and epoxy coated.
For additional lateral resistance there is a forward daggerboard with trunking to deck, supported by collision bulkhead - daggerboard to be of timber with lift arranged to anchor winch.
Forepeak to contain chain locker, standby generator, deck hatch access and ladder, twin cowl ventilators and general bosun’s storage. Two cargo holds, divided up into freezer and general cargo areas, totaling approximately 6000 cu. ft. excluding blown foam and boarding insulation for refrigerated cargo, associated compressors and evaporators for both hold spaces. Fresh water ballast is used to give some control over fore and aft trim under different loading conditions, and longitudinal fuel transfers are also incorporated which will help maintain optimum balance. Side-mounted Hiab 110 sea crane or equivalent. Main boom is capable of operating as single heavy lift swinging derrick. Hydraulic winches serve above requirements and for general sheet and halyard handling. Securing points fitted through both hold spaces. Insulated hatch covers/plugs to both hatchways. Deck hatch access to both holds.
A fold-down, tube and timber grating together with ladder fits into the stern recess to act as a diving support platform, which has access through watertight door in transom. Vessel has capacity to carry ROV and portable decompression chamber, plus adequate space for all other diving equipment or seismic survey arrays. Spacious aft work deck has a heavy duty A-frame for lifting ROVs, small subs and oceanographic vessels.
A modular laboratory to support a scientific research project could be lifted into the cargo hold and transported to site of interest. Vessel has low operating costs compared to motorized research vessels and lower environmental impact.
This vessel has range to go anywhere in the world, comfortable accommodation for a filming crew, ample power provided by 2 or more generators, spacious decks for a filming platform and two large cargo holds for topic-related equipment.
