HIGHLANDER is a very nicely cared for example of the popular Little Harbor 40 Whisper Jet series. She ahs been routinely updated by her only owners including recent Raymarine E-120 chart plotters and radar, canvas, soft goods and systems. As an example of her owners ongoing care, regardless of her being on the market they have replaced her generator with a brand new Northern Lights 6kw unit!! Of note is her hard glass with sliding windows on the helm deck sides.
Accommodations for four in a single stateroom layout with private forward cabin. The interior finish is done "Herreshoff Style" with varnished Cherry trim on white flat panels with a varnished teak and holly sole. There are several overhead dome style lamps as well as reading lamps at the V-berth to provide interior lighting. Natural light and ventilation is well provided for via six ports and three hatches in the trunk cabin as well as two hatches in the hard top. All of the ports have screens and all of the hatches have the optional Ocean Air blinds/screens. When natural light and ventilation are not enough, a Marine Air reverse cycle air conditioning unit (heats & cools) provides additional comfort.
Starting forward is the the private Forward Cabin with an large (over 7' in length) V-berth, with storage below in drawers and drop face lockers. Above the berth the hull is lined with Cherry ceilings and there is a storage shelf with fiddles. Aft of the port V is a dressing seat with storage under and in a hanging locker outboard while opposite to starboard is a bureau with drawers and then matching hanging locker outboard.
Next aft is the Salon with the Dining Settee to starboard with bench seats below which is storage and L shaped Galley to port. The dining settee may be converted to a double berth should occasion arise. Forward of the settee is a hanging locker and there is an additional tall locker at the aft bulkhead above the after bench seat. The Galley features Corian counter tops with generous storage in several lockers and drawers. Cooking is done from a 2 burner ceramic cooktop or in the convection microwave. A single basin polished stainless steel sink is fitted and there is a large Waeco dual voltage refrigerator/freezer for chilled food stuffs. A second Norcold unit is fitted on the helm deck.
Next aft is the enclosed Head with ensuite shower draining to s separate sump, vanity outboard with undermount stainless sink and Vacuflush W.C..
Up three steps to the Helm Deck which is the centerpiece of the Little Harbor 40. A generous 7' in length L settee is to port with storage under. A fixed pedestal varnished teak table provides space for dining. The fwd end of the settee may be converted and set up with a forward facing "navigator's" seat. Opposite to starboard and aft is a 2nd settee below which an ice maker is fitted and a "convenience" refrigeration box for drinks. Forward and to starboard is the helm station fitted out as described under electronics.
One step down to the generous cockpit with full width transom seat. Given the "dryness' of the Little Harbor 40 this is a great spot to lounge not only at anchor but underway as well. There is generous storage in the large lazarette that also houses the generator as well as in a locker accessed from the cockpit that extends under the helm deck settee.
Two steps up to the wide side decks with convenient hand holds leading forward. A large locker at the bow can stow extra fenders etc. as well as providing access to the anchor rode.
All electronics are located at the helm station starboard side of the helm deck.
Wired for 12 Volt DC and 110 Volt AC Service. When off the dock a Xantrex 2000 watt inverter handles lighter loads while a brand new 2016 Northern Lights 5.5 KW generator handles heavier loads ( the current Fischer Panda genset has been fine but not perfect the past couple of years so regardless of the fact that they are selling the owner 's want perfection as they send HIGHLANDER along to a new owner)

110 Volt AC:
Twin Yanmar 6LY 2H-STE 420 HP fresh water cooled diesels showing 2340 hours as of 10/28/15 provide motive power to Hamilton jet drives through ZF 1:1 gears. Fuel economy and performance were checked this past summer on a 225 NM run getting .95NM/gallon, same performance as new!
Per Yanmar tech specifications, the yacht may be cruised at engine rpm up to 3100 providing a high 20s cruise though the owner typically cruises at app 25 kt at 25-2600. One of the benefits of water jet drive is high speed efficiency the NMPG is a relatively flat line as RPM increases providing .95 NMPG at 3000-3100 rpm. it should also be noted, that due to the way the jets load the engines that 80-85% engine load is achieved at app 90% throttle position.
Handsome Flag Blue Awgripped fiberglass hull with Kevlar exterior skin and e-glass with Divinycell closed cell foam coring. The hull is laid up with vinylester resin in the outer laminates for superior osmotic blistering resistance. In 2005 the hull was sanded re-faired and long boarded and then Awlgripped Flag blue with a white boot stripe and gold cove stripe making this Little Harbor 40 the fairest hull we have seen from this builder. The bottom is finished in green ablative antifouling and was stripped in 2010 and barrier coated.
Unique to the Little Harbor line is the Ted hood conceived "quiet chine" that eliminates the slapping noise on the chines when on the mooring or at anchor.
Partially foam cored deck with contrasting non-skid Moon dust on White. Varnished teak cap rails and brow on the house provide attractive accents while keeping exterior maintenance to an easily managed level.
Throughout, this Little Harbor 40 has had the best of care and has been nicely upgraded. Her lucky next owner will find her turnkey and an easy boat to own for the next several years thanks to the current owners attention to detail.
Many are concerned about operating these boats without the "JetStick" but these are really not valid concerns. The seller will be happy to provide a day of jet boat handling training. Not having the "JetStick" is actually a plus once you learn how to handle the boat. You have less maintenance and manually controlling the jets you are able to maneuver the boat in ways the "JetStick" cannot.
