If you have read our offerings for Valiant Yachts over the years, then you know of our knowledge and our passion for these proven blue water boats. The Valiants are designed by the very talented yacht designer, (and our good friend) Bob Perry. We know Valiants having owned and sailed the Valiant 40 "Solstice" for many years. Then building our new Valiant 42 "Mahalo" like many other two time Valiant owners. We now know what it costs to build a brand new V42 and equip it properly.
While you know the Valiant is famous for the countless safe ocean passages, you might not realize that not every Valiant owner sails over the horizon. The Valiant is also appreciated for serving their owners well where ever they sail. Even if you are not crossing oceans, you will recognize the Valiant as a wonderful and safe and low maintenance cruiser or liveaboard home. If you love sailing, you'll appreciate this beautiful sailing yacht. If across a Bay, or hopping in and out down the Coast, you'll feel secure. And when the wind blows hard and the seas kick up, you'll be totally happy and snug. If you have even a tiny inking that you might want to cross an ocean, you'll have the boat to do it. Would you really want less?
Interviewing many owners we've learned that this is a boat that will make you a good sailor! Your crew will be a confident crew. She carries full sail easily to 18 knots and tracks straight and true. She's rock solid! You'll steer with fingertip control in virtually all conditions. The sail plan with the true cutter rig is perfectly manageable. There is nothing intimidating. The windier it gets the more she loves it. And so will you. You might also enjoy passing other boats! The Valiant is a proven design that works.

Valiants are designed to be brilliantly functional and easily maintained. This is one of the few boats with virtually no exterior wood. The factory ships parts anywhere and the owners will tell you the price is better than West Marine. Valiant gives you access to all of the systems to repair or replace any components. Everything is labeled!
The layout is the Valiant 42 Center Entry Queen. This interior layout is functional and very livable with two separate cabins, and a traditional salon that makes a double to port. The layout gives you all you need with a very workable galley, large sit down nav station, and an aft head with a separate shower stall. Of course all Valiants have a remarkable engine room and mechanical space. All the systems are properly engineered and installed. Above deck she is all business with a safe deep cockpit and a deck layout that makes it easy to sail. And, very importantly in today's world, there is no WOOD outside! All the beautiful cherry wood is down below. The Valiant 42 is a wonderful home, anywhere.
Our special offering is called "Magic". She's a 2001 model year, hull #145 center entry queen forward cabin! When her owners bought her in 2010 they did everything they possibly could imagine to make the boat absolutely new and perfect. They painted the hull a beautiful glossy black and named her Magic. They had the entire interior sanded and refinished. The cherry wood interior is a gleaming masterpiece of warm rich ambiance. The teak and basswood cabin sole is in impeccable condition and the new cushions and upholstery are gorgeous. The stainless steel opening ports and large Lewmar hatches provide wonderful ventilation. The cabin sides are cream panels which makes it light and bright down below. The robust build quality is evident everywhere you look. Pick up a locking floorboard and you will see.

The Valiant 42 center entry companionway with a queen V-berth stateroom forward is a perfect vessel. This layout gives you a perfect two-stateroom vessel with a single head and stall shower at the companionway, a truly magnificent galley, spacious salon, sit down navigation station, and a dedicated engine room.
The build quality is robust, crafted with the rigors of the ocean foremost in mind. You will so the heavily built quality everywhere from the locking floor boats to the cabinetry. The cabin interior is light and bright due to the Formica panels trimmed in cherry on the house sides and ceiling and the many opening ports and hatches.
While everything is strong, you'll also see it all very well executed. The drawers are solid Cherry faced with Cedar bottoms and dovetailed corners and roll out on easy going slides. The lockers have courtesy lights that come on when you open the door. All the cabinets and lockers securely lock with one hand. The Hood stainless steel opening ports and Lewmar Ocean hatches that provide wonderful light and ventilation as the breeze seems to blow right through the boat.
Queen V Berth Cabin forward is the most popular layout. The Queen V stateroom has the chain locker forward with space to pull the extra chain back under the berth. Under the berth, Magic has a large 45 gallons of extra diesel fuel with additional storage for or storm sails and other seldom needed spares. The hull sides are finished with Ash battens and there are three roomy cabinets on each side. A reading light and a book shelf port and starboard give perfect individual space for each occupant of this spacious double berth. Two large drawers under the berth roll easily and are lined with aromatic cedar. In the cabin, there is a large locker to port with a smaller locker and a bench seat to starboard. The bi-fold Cherry door provides privacy. Great comfort and ventilation with two big hatches and opening ports.
In the Valiant Queen V layout, the salon is extremely spacious with a traditional a centerline drop-leaf table and an L-shaped settee to port that pulls right out to a double berth. No fuss. This layout sleeps seven if you want! There is storage behind the settee and the port water tank below. To starboard there is a straight settee with cabinetry and shelves outboard, with the starboard tank under, and storage behind.
The main salon is light and well ventillated with eight opening ports and two hatches as well as fans and dorages for ventillation. There is an L shaped settee to port that easily makes a nice double berth leaving the walkthrough clear to the forward cabin. The salon has a lovely warm Cherry woodwook and cabinets and a beautiful Teak and Basswood cabin sole refinished (2011) in satin Varathane. Ash battens line the hull sides and Cherry cabinets and shelves are outboard of the settees. The cabin house sides and ceiling are a soft cream Formica with Cherry trim. The Hood stainless steel ports are all opening ports and all have screens. The upholstery is pleasing and comfortable.
Bob Perry at his finest! He definitely designs a boat that “cooks” in more ways than one. The Valiant classic U shaped galley to port is considered one of the best galleys on any boat. The galley will make any chef very, very happy.
On any cruising boat, the navigation station is another room in the house and the Valiant nav station is a big and beautiful "room with a view"; a view of the instruments and controls.
This is a cozy cabin that meets all your requirements to have guests aboard from time to time. More importantly when cruising shorthanded, this is your sea berth when you are sailing on a passage. Located beside the companionway on the port quarter, the “off watch” crew member can be peacefully sleeping just three feet from the cockpit. We use our aft cabin as our sea berth like so many Valiant cruising couples do. Outboard we stow important items including our ditch bag and cockpit cushions. When we have guests, this cabin becomes a nice double berth with privacy as it has a door and a folding panel to close it up. There is also a dressing seat, hanging locker and two large drawers as well as a full length mirror. Good ventilation is provided by two opening ports and an overhead hatch.
With the V42 layout, Valiant, definitely got it right! The head is located just down the companionway on the starboard side where it is easy to use in a seaway. The stall shower makes a perfect wet locker on a passage with a hanging locker outboard of the shower. At anchor the stall shower is so wonderful you'll use it even in a marina because it is so well ventilated with a hatch overhead and a port and it is so easy to keep clean being of fiberglass with a seat, a teak grate, and sump pump. The oval stainless steel sink is on a large counter space with a great deal of storage in the Cherry cabinets outboard. There is even a clothes hamper, something seldom seen on any boat! Under the counter there is more storage. The bi-fold door works well for privacy and locks in place when not in use.
This is one of the most important features of a Valiant; one of the best engine rooms on any sailing vessel.
The large sit down navigation station is your ships office where the breaker panel, read outs, and controls are located. The large chart table offers ample space and the seat has good storage under it. We've seen one Valiant with a custom slide out file drawer under it! The standard Valiant gives you flexibity to configure your navigation station for the instruments you choose. On our Valiant, we created a beautiful Cherry face and elegantly flush-mounted our electronics. Other sailors keep the space more flexible installing electronics on shelving because in today’s world, electronics change fast. Most importantly, this navigation station is a real space in which to navigate, plan, monitor the ship, and sit and chat on the SSB or VHF with the cruisers nets. You’ll sit an update your log. You’ll sit and listen to weather to choose your optimal departure. Don't forget, in short handed sailing, it is important to have instruments in the cockpit and we configured for our Valiant 42 to give us everything we need in the cockpit in a way that works very well for us. We can help you decide what works for you.
New in 2008, the Raymarine E series navigation with radar and chartplotter is under the dodger, the perfect location for long range cruising. Raymarine ST60 series displays at the helm for wind, speed, depth! She's ready to go with SSB and Pactor modem and ST6000 Raymarine autopilot.
Magic has the upgraded Westerbeke 55 HP and additional fuel tank! Westerbeke 5KW genset with remote fuel filter service system. The engine room is a dedicated space with access both through the aft of the toilet or by removing the companionway engine box. One of the requirements for a blue water voyaging vessel is access to everything, and Valiant passes the test. The engine room houses Westerbeke 55 HP engine and the 5KW Genset just aft of it. The dedicated engine room provides the mechanical space for the Webasto diesel heater, the Spectra water maker, and holding tank.
The design of the Valiant 42 is the modernization of the Valiant 40 designed by Robert H. Perry. The Valiant 40 earned its reputation for safety and performance when, in the 80s, Francis Stokes placed second in the BOC around the world race under all the great capes. Mark Schrader aboard the Valiant 40 "Resourceful" became the first American to complete the nonstop round the world voyage single handed belwo all five southern capes! By the mid eighties the Valiant had proved to be a capable offshore voyager that could be sailed solo around the world. She was an ocean race boat! The Valiant 42 sails even better than the Valiant 40 with added mast height and added sail area and ballast. She's a sail animal.
But even more important to all of us couples, is comfort, safety, and complete lack of drama. More couples choose to sail a Valiant than any other cruising boat for very good reasons. The true cutter rig, divided sail plan, powerful well placed winches, and safe cockpit all make it possible for a couple to cruise safely and feel very secure. The boat is easily driven and sails delightfully in light winds; in heavy air, reef her down with a double reef in the main and the sailsail and she'll track like a freight train with the windvane steering system guiding her effortlessly. She sails fast so you get there! She is weatherly and carries sail so you are not constantly reefing. She is tough so you feel secure. And she is perfect!
And...it gets even easier...Magic has great sails by Quantum and a Leisurefurl In-boom furling system!
The deck layout and construction is one of the most important aspects of any sailboat. Valiant builds a robust, low maintenance vessel, and all the toughness shows. All of the deck hardware is the best quality, from the Hood stainless steel ports, to Lewmar Ocean hatches, to Lewmar winches and custom Valiant stainless steel work. The toe rail is aluminum giving you the ability to attach blocks as you need to. The toe rail is is bedded with 5200 and through bolted to the hull deck flange. Stainless steel stanchions are bulwark mounted, the way you want them, and support 31” high double life lines.
The Valiant Yachts company has fully used it’s wonderful stainless steel fabrication capabilities to create the amazing Valiant bow sprit completely of stainless steel beautiful sculpted and welded. It is a piece of art. Valiant stainless work is beyond. It is brilliant. It really is art! In addition to the bow sprit, Valiant also manufactures all the dorade guards and the hand rails, everything. They make a beautiful stern rail of one inch stainless steel tubing. And perhaps the most recognizable element is the Valiant hard dodger which is definately industrial and it is as useful as it is substantial! The ridge hard dodger is solid and gives great security in the cockpit with its hand rails on both sides and the cockpit side of solid stainless steel. It even has a standard lights, red and white, under the dodger. You feel very safe in a Valiant cockpit.
The Valiant cockpit is also comfortable with the pedestal mounted wheel steering and wide comfortable seating and cockpit combings. The cockpit is long enough to lie down. The combings are high and comfortable with a flat top so you can perch on them. The cockpit lockers port and starboard and aft lazarettes have deep gutters for drainage. Cockpit drains are large to drain quickly.
