Huge Price Reduction!! Enroute to Annapolis!!!Great News for you! The famous Valiant 50 that was the cover girl of the Valiant 50 Brochure is offered for sale! She was the red one, launched in 2001, commissioned and rigged for a circumnavigation by her first owners, a serious sailing couple. She was outfitted with a wonderful Leisurefurl in-boom furling system and is upgraded with new Navtec rod rigging and a new suite of sails. Her bottom was sand blasted to baby smooth with new barrier coat and new bottom paint. She has been lightly used for the past six years and constantly maintained and upgraded.
The Leisurefurl in boom furling system and a dozen other advantages to make sailing easy and safe. In 2009, she received the award from Valiant Yachts for being the first to circumnavigate on a Valiant 50! She was restored to perfect condition by her first owner with a new paint job that is stunning. Her second owner is rightfully so proud of Miss Red, as she is called. He has loved and upgraded her with new rod rigging, new electronics, new sails and storm sails as well as all the safety gear.
For the first few years, Miss Red, cruised New England in the summer roaming from Annapolis to Newport to Block Island and Nantucket and all the lovely spots. In 2014 she and her captain and crew were getting ready for the Newport to Bermuda Race! This was the really big adventure and in preparation, Miss Red received the royal treatment and lavish expense account. She easily passed the rigorous safety inspection required for entry. She made a good passage and was definitely noticed! After a double hand return to the shore of Massachusetts in early June, 2015, she made the trip to Nova Scotia! It’s true what they say…the fog is mostly off the coast! Miss Red enjoyed the whole summer up there. The sail back was exciting with 25 knot winds in fog with 40 degree weather. Miss Red performed flawlessly and everything worked from the new B&G navigation system to the mechanicals. She was flawless. In 2016, Miss Red again made the trip to Bermuda, completing the journey in four days with winds of every variety from storm force to the infamous light and variable “Bermuda High”. Miss Red sailed beautifully through it all and we are not surprised! Miss Red sailed from Bermuda to Charleston, SC, where she is presently lives.
Where ever she goes, Miss Red is noticed! They call her Big Red! Up in Nova Scotia at the NS Royal Yacht Squadron, she drew crowds both on and off the water. In Bermuda, many crew from other boats and even staff from the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club came to visit and “take a look”. Just look at the pictures. She is amazingly spectacular!
We especially love this Valiant 50 because she has served both her owners so very well. This is a rare opportunity to own a famous Valiant 50 that is absolutely proven. She circumnavigated with hardly a hiccup while other cruisers suffered failures and breakdowns. I guess this is why Valiant is the choice for solo sailors and for live aboard cruising couples. With the aft head and stall shower at the companionway, and famous pantry, galley and nav next forward, she is a perfect passage maker. The forward stateroom is extra special with port side upper and lower berths with storage and vanity to starboard. This layout also provides a great storage area forward in the forepeak. The layout was specified for ocean voyaging for a family of four and it totally works! The layout offers the ultimate passage making comfort for a couple and kids or crew. It offers luxurious living space for a small family or for a couple with guests aboard anywhere in the world. With the galley located adjacent the nav station on the port side and the head aft, it is brilliant at sea or at anchor. The vessel has stowage and load carrying capacity for absolutely everything you need on your extended voyage.
The salon is bright and spacious for living aboard and makes a truly comfortable home anywhere. If you do have crew on a passage, thesalon has two perfect sea berths; and the port side dinette makes a big double berth. The main salon is so comfortable; you will believe you are in a living room. With the new red upholstery, it is beautiful and it is literally brand new. With the traditional centerline table opened, you can seat eight in spacious comfort. The galley just aft to port sets the standard for galleys. It is incredible at sea and wonderful at anchor, or at the dock. The head and separate shower are functional at sea as the location is close to the cockpit and comfortable in a seaway. The aft cabin to port is spacious and offers the most comfortable berth at sea and at anchor and as such it is the master cabin on this ocean going vessel. For the cruising couple, this is the perfect passage maker. She is comfortable, fast and easy to sail. This is a perfect layout with the off watch person is always very close by within easy distance of the cockpit. This aft cabin is very comfortable with drawers under the berth; a cedar lined hanging locker, and a dressing seat with storage under.
Valiant is special having NO wood outside! Down below there is a cherry forest and the quality is immediately evident when you see the fine craftsmanship demonstrated in everything from the cabin sole, to the cabinets, to the furniture and fixtures. The interior woodwork is American Cherry wood with a hand rubbed oil finish that is absolutely lovely, so lovely, you could never imagine that she has sailed around the world! The cabin sole is teak inlaid with basswood strips coated with satin Varithan. The interior is beautiful woodwork including the bulkheads, cabinetry, and the doors, and dovetailed drawers, and cherry trim. The interior is all beautiful warm wood! Where is makes sense, in the head, galley, and cabin sides, and ceiling panels, light cream Formica is a refreshing counterpoint to the warmth of the woodwork. Ash battens line the hull sides warmly glow with soft satin finish. The cabin interior is light and bright and well ventilated with many opening ports and hatches. At night the lighting is provided with dome lights and reading lights at the settees and berth with additional LED and Alpenglow lighting. The upholstery is brand new red upholstery. It is warm, comforting and gorgeous.
Bob Perry definitely designs a boat that “cooks” in more ways than one, start with the sailing and go to the galley! The Valiant classic U shaped galley to port is considered one of the best galleys on any sailing vessel. It is extremely workable with ample counter space with Corian countertop. Outboard to port is the Broadwater propane stove with four burners and large oven. There is built in dish storage and storage outboard the stove with the microwave just aft outboard. Storage abounds in cupboards and a deep storage locker, but that is not the best part. The best part is the perfect Valiant pantry with its slide out shelves is in easy reach. The well insulated ice box with fridge and separate freezer section has a great Sea Frost 110v refrigeration system at the aft side of the galley against the bulkhead. On the forward side there is immense counter space with deep double stainless steel sinks near the center line facing forward into the salon. Sails and Rigging:
The Valiant 50 is a powerful sailing machine and yet she is easily managed in all conditions. Miss Red’s current owners have gently cruised New England frequenting the posh mooring fields and restaurants from Newport to Nantucket. While Miss Red has graced many a harbor in New England in the summer, this boat has been there and done it. In 2014 she completed the Newport Bermuda Race and cruised Nova Scotia. In 2016 she sailed to Bermuda and south to Charleston. She sailed around the world in four short years! They all say is easy! She is generally first to every port! Her captain and crew arrive rested. The boat is a perfect passage maker, rigged for easy sailing and she has a really comfortable layout that does not wear out her crew. Our V50 circumnavigators reported few serious upwind passages during which the boat just shouldered into the weather and leaped over the waves. But mostly it was downwind and the boat sailed effortlessly under spinnaker or a poled out jib day and night! Any time the wind did wind pipe up you just reef her down and sail swiftly and in comfort and safety. The best part is that the boat is so manageable with the Leisurefurl mainsail, it is easy to sail short handed.
HULL AND DECK DETAILS
Impressive! It is amazing that the original Valiant 40 design from Bob Perry was the first "performance cruiser". Now 35 years later Valiant 50 is the same proven design “on steroids” with the classic Bob Perry long fin cruising keel, skeg hung rudder, and rounded rear end giving her that long handsome lengthy waterline, with superb buoyancy and straight true tracking. The Valiant has proved the design over and over in winning single hand BOC races and taking couples around the world with the autopilot (or windvane) steering easily in all conditions! The Valiant 50 is proved to be super fast and comfortable and very well mannered. Cruising couples choose this performance cruiser because she is built to take you to sea and bring you back again! Valiant construction sets the standard for a solidly robust and well built vessel that meets rigorous standards set by the ocean! In production for thirty-five years, the Valiant factory built every boat by hand the way real boats are built with hand laid layers of fiberglass matt, woven roving and Isophthalic resin. The laminate schedule of 20 layers at the base of the keel stub and 11 at the waterline and six at the sheer result in a hull with structural integrity and impressive strength. With all the bulkheads and furniture tabbed into the hull sides on the inside, the boat is like one monolithic structure. It sure makes you feel secure in the middle of the ocean. The boat sails incredibly well. With her long waterline of 40'3" and beam of 13'10" she is very stable. With her lead keel with 31% ballast and draft of 6'3" she is stiff and solid and carries sail well. Her long cruising fin keel makes her track true and steer easily with her Alpha autopilot. Steering by hand, you find finger tip control.
