Palmer J. is located at a shipyard in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, and is currently available for refit.
One of the oldest Palmer Johnsons in existence today, and named for its builder, Mr. Palmer Johnson, Palmer J., is a wooden 1931 motorsailer designed by the renowned William Hand, Jr. Due to its 1931 heritage, Palmer J. was most likely uniquely constructed under the guidance of Mr. Palmer Johnson himself.
The completed refit will include all new oak frames, an oak stem & stern post, and a carbon fiber shaft tube. The hull is already prepped for new owner option of conventional planking or a cold-molded epoxy composite hull, as well as a new composite deck & wheelhouse to ensure minimal future maintenance. In addition, a new John Deere 165 horsepower diesel engine will be added along with fully upgraded electrical, steering, & mechanical systems, including reverse cycle heating & air conditioning, a generator, and a bow thruster. Modern plumbing features will be installed, including heads, tanks, pumps, & refrigeration.
Palmer J. features a suggested two-cabin layout with a private owner’s stateroom aft, a galley, main salon & dual heads with showers. The interior layout can be customized to suit new owner needs.
Palmer J. is the perfect vessel for collectors or for yachtsmen who appreciate the rarity and beauty of a classic wooden yacht.
