Aluminum construction by Whanganui boats
Hull & Decks: In April 2015 Trojan Eagle was moved to Blair Boats in Kerikeri there she underwent a full hull and deck refit. The teak decks removed and aluminum sandblasted, cockpit teak removed and replaced, and new LPG compartment fitted. All glass replaced and new deck hatch fitted.
The deck was reskinned with resin then a foam core fitted, and two layers of woven fiberglass mat laid. The deck and hull repainted to Trojan Eagles original colour scheme. Included photos below but you can go to Facebook/Blairboats and look through all the photos of the refit. This refit cost $230,000 and took just over a year to complete
She is of robust scantlings with the skin heavier than required, as the extra strength was to achieve the desired displacement and ballast ratios to optimise the then IOR rule for which she as designed.
She is by modern standard I, a heavy yacht but still performed well with a second place in the 1984 Whangarei Noumea race which was in light airs
