The man who built this boat was an engineer and This boat is Solid and awesome, a real original. The sails and rigging are all in great shape and the engine runs great as well. The local papers at the time made it a big story, The present owner writes...…. "……. My grandfather worked at Bethlehem Steel his entire life after returning from the Korean War. One day he read an article about this particular type of Ketch Sailboat...he then decided to build it.
Every night when he got home from work he would tinker and hand roll steel, then on the weekends he would put in 10 hour days. It took him 10 years of labor and love to build the Eisenmadel, which means Iron Maiden in German.
He stood 6'2, the cabin clears 6'3. Every inch of detail in the boat was obsessed over and the hull was gel coated with a military grade epoxy that continues to stand the test of time.
I have gunkholed the Eisenmadel around the Chesapeake for the past decade as her captain, but I now have small children and a wife who gets sea-sick. We simply don't give her the time on the water she craves and deserves.
My hope is to pass along our family legacy to another family who will love and appreciate her the way we have over her first 30 years."
