The Oyster Lightwave 395
With growing disillusionment with the IOR, Oyster commissioned Carl Schumacher to design a light displacement high performance one-design racer/cruiser. Thirty-one were launched between 1988 and 1990.
Exciting to sail, yet safe and simple, the 395 has a masthead rig, which is easy to handle while family sailing. Examples went to race under the CHS and have competed well as shorthanded racers, but the majority are now used for fast cruising.
Blue Pearl has had her Standing and running rigging replaced and a new engine fitted in 2015. Following this the boat was ashore for two years with the mast down before being re-launched in 2017. During the two year lay up the hull was also resprayed, the forward hatch cover re-glazed, the forward bunk mattresses recovered and much interior lighting replaced with LED fittings. Work on plumbing included fitting a new water pump, removing cleaning and replacing water tanks and fitting a new pump to the sea toilet.
Blue Pearl sleeps 6 in comfort. The accommodation comprises of a spacious saloon with galley, nav station, a large aft cabin, forecabin and good sized heads compartment. The upholstery is in good order. Fitted with Eberspacher cabin heated.
The saloon provides ample seating and has a table which can be converted to two single berths There is a double in the forecabin and an offset double with seat and dry locker in the large aft cabin.
The heads compartment has handbasin, shower and covered shelving. There is a wet locker as well as plenty of dry storage.
The galley comprises a two burner stove with oven and grill, fridge and sink with pressurised hot and cold water. Hot water heated by calorifier or immersion.
