Designed by Groupe Finot, the Beneteau 311 is fast and comfortable and has many of the characteristics that one might expect from much larger boats. Her hull and integral molded grid system combine to create an extremely strong and stiff structure. The bulb keel, despite its moderate draft, gives impressive speed and ensures excellent performance under sail. Her large sail area is divided between the mainsail with long battens and the moderate overlap furling genoa. The deck layout is simple and efficient. The large cockpit has slatted teak seats and is completely uncluttered, and the genoa sheet winches are within easy reach of the helm. Standard features include lazyjacks, a quick reefing system, and a solid boom vang. The retractable keel is easy to handle. Since the external ballast / keel assembly remains permanently under the hull, the weight of the retractable keel can be kept down to a moderate 660 pounds. A simple mechanical jack raises and lowers the keel. At low tide, the Beneteau 311 rests on the forward part of the external ballast sole and on the two solid rudders creating a highly stable tripod. Below deck and to port is the galley with gimbaled stove, stainless steel sink with pressurized hot and cold water, and plenty of storage. To port there is a large head with a marine toilet and wash basin, a shower with pressurized hot and cold water, a hanging locker, and plenty of room to store sundries. To starboard is a large navigation table. Electronics can be easily seen from the bulkhead. The symmetrical salon consists of two settees flanking a large drop-leaf table. The 311 has two cabins - forward and aft. The private forward cabin has a large V-berth, a hanging locker, and lots of storage along the side of the hull. The aft cabin is also generous in size with plenty of room for storage.
Accommodations
The 311 has 2 separate Staterooms with full bulkheads and doors ,a feature usually only found in much larger boats. Full Galley with Stove and Oven to port and large Top Load 12 volt Refrigerator to Stbd. The Salon has 2 - 6'3" Settees, Nav Station and a full size folding Mahogany Dining Table between the Settees. The Forward Cabin has a 6'6" by 5'0" V-berth with Hanging Locker,privacy Door in the bulkhead and opening Lewmar Deck Hatch. The enclosed Head with 13 gal. Holding Tank is to stbd ,as you enter the Cabin, with a built-in Vanity and a large lighted Mirror. Several opening Ports and Hatches give the boat a light airy feeling. The oversized Aft Cabin is entered through another privacy Door in the aft bulkhead. Double Berth 6'4" by 6'6" with storage underneath. Hanging Locker, 2-Lewmar opening Ports.
