The Fountain 42 Lightning is the ultimate performance offshore sport boat in the Fountain line- up. The 42 was simply the fastest, smoothest, safest and best handling Fountain built, and it has all of the championships and speed records to prove it.

Fountain made the decision immediately upon the release of the Mercury Racing 700SCi that it would upgrade to the #6 speed-master drive on the NTX transom assembly to make the performance mirror that of their offshore dominating race boats.

Since the roll-out of the 700SCi, the 42 with twin 700's has been one of the most sought after Fountains of all time, running at an astounding 103-105 miles per hour right out of the box.

This 42 has been meticulously maintained, and only has 80 hours on NEW Mercury Long-Blocks. the drives and the transmissions were also gone through on a "cost is no object" basis, including new gears and bearings.

The windshield has been re-powder-coated blue since the feature photo was taken.

In 2008, the 42 received an updated cabin configuration that was a significant departure from the original style cabins, and has been a much desired feature in the used market.

The drives feature vent-tubes to allow the boat to pop on plane with the high performance stainless propellers.

The trailer is included on this low hour, mostly fresh-water run boat that is located in Canada presently.

No other boat has had the illustrious heritage of the 42 Lightning. This is the hull that blitzed the race courses of the world, winning more world and national champions than any other V-bottom in history. It shattered the V-bottom world speed record eight times with the fastest two way average of 171.883 mph and a one way pass of 177.35 mph. Touted as the finest offshore boat ever built because it has dominated racecourses over the past two decades. It all started with Bob Nordskogâ??s Powerboat Special in the mid 1980â??s and has since then raced under such notable names as Ohio Steel, Ocean Spray, Rio Roses, Pier 57, and Yachts International to name a few. The 42 is equipped with a staggered engine set-up that brings the propellers close together, keeping the center of gravity down low along the keel where it works best. With a pair of Mercury 525 EFI engines, the 42 Lightning will hit speeds up to 90 mph. Looking to up the ante? Try twin 700 Mercurys with NXT1 gimbals and #6 uppers and lowers to reach speeds approaching 105 MPH. Try Mercury 850â??s and hit an eye watering 120 mph. Want a kick in the pants? Bolt in the Mercury 1075s and blast into the stratosphere at more than 130+mph.
