Currently, Envolee (Concordia #81) is in her shed, covered in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Built in 1960 by Abeking and Rasmussen Shipyard, Lemwerder, Germany she has been professionally maintained at Triad for over 26 years. Envolee presents herself in excellent and extremely sound condition. Her teak decks are in fine shape. Cockpit meticulously rebuilt in 1991 at Triad. Recent work (2014/15) includes a new stern post, new mahogany deadwood, new lower planks port and starboard, with complete refastening (silicon bronze). Keel bolts replaced in 2002. The 30 HP Yanmar diesel was new in 2011 (low hours) with bronze folding two blade propeller. Rewired in 2015. Ulmer mainsail, mizzen and North head sail (on roller furling) in good condition. Raytheon instruments and Cetrek autopilot.
As a classic Concordia yawl Envolee, an outstanding example of C. Raymond Hunt's design, presents herself well for viewing with an excellent and continuing maintenance program and upgrades that are a fine testament to her ownership and full professional care and craftsmanship by Triad Boatworks. Stored indoors at Triad since 1988. Maintenance records and 2016 survey are available upon request.
Envolee is ready for a new home, she's a vessel that will take you from the fast lane to a place of ease on the water for a long weekend or a cruise. All reasonable offers will be seriously considered. Recent reduction in price to sell this off season.
Envolee has recently been been donated to Block Island Maritime Funding, a non-profit organization in New England, and is now available on a lease with option to purchase contract.
Envolee (#81) was built in 1960 at Abeking and Rasmussen Shipyard, Lemwerder, Germany. A carvel planked hull with African Mahogany planks upon white oak stem (new 2015 at Triad), lower planks port and starboard also replaced in 2015; laminated 1 1/2 inch x 2 inch white oak frame and beams with silicon bronze fastenings. Keel bolts completely removed and replaced with stainless steel or bronze (where appropriate) in 2002. Full iron keel with bronze skeg and two bladed folding propeller set in rudder aperture. Mahogany rudder (new 1991). The superstructure is varnished mahogany with painted Dynel (synthetic fiber) over fir coach roof. The interior is bright finished raised knotty pine bulkheads with locust trim and painted fir overheads. The cabin sole is teak planking (original). The decks are natural solid teak planks over oak frames. Bronze stanchions with varnished teak toerails, handrails and trim. Tanks are Monel (nickel-copper alloy). Envolee is finished in white with green anti-fouling bottom paint.
Envolee has a distinctive, bright and well ventilated interior with comfortable berths for four. The forepeak has a sail bin and stowage forward, followed by two pipe berths with lockers beneath. The forward cabin has reading lights, mahogany overhead hatch providing ambient light and ventilation, and two round bronze opening ports forward. Next to port thru paneled locust door is the enclosed head with aft facing Imperial manual toilet (with deck pump out, and macerator for overboard discharge), vintage vanity, medicine cabinet, linen hamper, locker space and opening bronze portlight. To starboard across from the head are two hanging lockers.
The main cabin has the traditional and very comfortable Pullman/Concordia style berths port and starboard. These can be stowed out of sight to double as backrests for settees. There is a varnished cherry fixed drop leaf table just port of centerline, and a cast iron Concordia solid fuel cabin heater/stove is set forward and slightly to port in the main saloon which vents via Charley Noble. Outboard of the berths are shelves and slatted lockers. Headroom is 6'3" in main saloon. The cushions are corduroy and include back and side bolsters. Mattresses were replaced in 2012 and have seen little use since. Interior 12 volt lamps and brass oil lamps. The main saloon has a large varnished wood butterfly hatch aft of mainmast.
The teak sole can be easily removed for access to the bilge. The galley is aft to starboard with gimballed two burner CNG stove (new 2005) with lockers and shelving outboard. The Yanmar diesel engine (new in 2011) is located partly under bridge deck and partly under cockpit deck and is readily reached by removing the panels and covers. The engine box can serve as a galley station. To port there is the icebox, storage and the stainless steel galley sink with hot and cold pressured water. The galley benefits from the ambient light and ventilation provided from two opening portlights.
The companionway leads out to the self-bailing cockpit, finished in teak. The cockpit was completely and thoroughly rebuilt in 1991 (to an extent that the grain of the teak coamings are identical in form to each other). Edson pedestal and mahogany wheel. There is a spare stainless steel Destroyer wheel. 35 gallon Monel fuel tank in portside locker and starboard locker with engine controls, CNG tank and Cetrek autopilot. Aft lazerette for storage. The hot pressured water was extended to the head in 2002, and also to an outlet/cockpit shower in portside lazerette.
Mast head rigged yawl, with varnished box sectioned Sitka spruce masts and booms. The mainmast is keel stepped upon a longitudinal oak beam. North mainsail (with lazy jacks), mizzen and North foresail with roller furling and club foot/jib boom. Stainless steel 10 x 19 wire standing rigging. Primary winches are a pair of self tailing Barient #28 bronze winches, secondaries are also self tailing Barient #28s, bronze halyard self tailing winches on mainmast. The mainsheet block and tackle traveler is located on the raised bridge deck. Bronze genoa track mounted on toe rail with sheet cars. Wooden blocks, varnished locust cleats. Dodger and bimini. Main and mizzen sail covers. Canvas hatch cover.
Decks are teak over oak frames, solid locust cleats, bronze chocks, bronze stanchions and bases. Double lifelines, bronze bow pulpit. Bower is a 35lb CQR anchor with chain rode and nylon leader. Kedge anchor mounted on forward coach roof. Bronze custom anchor chock. Mahogany boathook, fenders, two bright oak fender boards, emergency tiller, 12 volt Rule 1500 bilge pump, Edson manual diaphragm bilge pump, searchlight, fire extinguishers (cockpit locker and forward cabin)
12 volt DC and 120 volt AC systems. Marine deep cycle batteries in mahogany battery box. Wiring upgraded in 2015 (copper stranded marine grade). DC circuit breaker panel adjacent to companionway. Navigational lights, 12 volt interior lights in main cabin, head and forepeak. 120 volt outlets below. Shore power cable. Batteries charged by engine alternator, with combiner allowing both house and engine batteries to be charged at same time .
30 HP Yanmar 3YM30 diesel engine new in 2011 on oak stringers, closed freshwater cooling with heat-exchanger. Low hours. Great access to engine for routine checks and maintenance. Cruises in good form at 5.5 -6 knots with a top speed of over 7 knots, and as such she can ably deal with a contrary "Buzzard's Bay chop". Adjustable bronze stuffing box. Wheel steering (mahogany spoked wheel or stainless steel Destroyer wheel) with two blade folding propeller.
Envolee is a handsome example of the successful and elegant Concordia yawl. This is endorsed by marine surveyor's recent summary comments: "This classic Concordia yawl was found to be in overall very good condition for her age. It is obvious that ownership takes great pride in the vessel with an excellent maintenance program in place with all systems and appurtenances, including upholstery, engine and bilge spaces, fit and finish, in very fine condition" (Michael Collyer, Senior Marine Surveyor; March 2016).
She has had the same owner since 1981 and has been stored indoors for 29 years. She was launched and in the water for 3 days in October 2017 to swell planks, this was successfully achieved. The engine was serviced at that time.
Stored indoors this off-season at Triad Boatworks (as she has been for 28 winters). In great shape, Envolee presents an outstanding opportunity to purchase, and be ready in short order for 2020.
