Absolutely gorgeous! A beautiful blue water cruiser. You will never see another boat like this. Great as a long range cruiser, live aboard or a vacation get away at the marina. When you step aboard "Cuidado" you begin to feel immersed into a fantasy world. A mix between a 60,000LB blue water cruising yacht and a treehouse out of a fairy tale! The wood interior layout and design are unlike anything you’ll ever see. The layout can easily take your imagination away on incredible journeys! Launched in 1985 as a dining boat by two men who owned a restaurant in San Francisco. They sold her in 1986 due to a downturn in the economy. The successive owner who bought her installed the masts and rigging. At some point after, he sailed her from San Francisco to San Quintin, Mexico. It was there that the current owner purchased the boat in 1995 while traveling from La Paz to Seattle. In the summer of 1996 they sailed up to San Diego, had some work done, and then set sail to Seattle, Washington. While moored in Lake Washington they gutted her to the hull, refurbished her, and installed extra reinforcement support beams as well as cross beams to support both masts and "amas." During this time they took the masts off, re-rigged her and added mast steps, added / built the aft lounge cabin, which is aluminum structured and framed, and re-enforced sky lights and acrylic windows. By 2001 over $100,000 was spent on re-furbishing, re-enforcing, and upgrading. Electronics, appliances, new hatches were installed etc. She was hauled out again in 2002 and at this time the main hull bottom was completely rebuilt, due to an unsatisfactory repair made in Mexico from the previous owner. "Cuidado" was in the Ballard Ship Canal (fresh water) until she was sailed to Ventura in September 2008. The trip down from Washington to Ventura took about 8 days and steady she went. Trimarans are a true sailing pleasure, a fast and comfortable non-heeling sail. Typically faster than their heeling counterpart, you will find that when sailing at a very minimum angle of heel you will enjoy your sail even more. Spacious decks and comfortable accommodations, the lack of heeling makes sailing even more pleasurable as you are not rolling out of bed or having to constantly hold onto your coffee mug lol. She is a remarkably safe vessel. Reliable completely rebuilt 60 HP diesel, and a Ketch Rig allows for sailing in many conditions. She has been well kept with most maintenance and repair records. Her bottom was painted in 2008, 2013, and 2019 when the major retrofit was completed at Ventura Harbor Boatyard. As time and life has its way with us all, the owner has decided that its time to find this beauty a new home.
She has been wonderful as a live aboard for a truly wonderful person that has kept the boat up. New rigging will be needed and up to date electronics.

A little history about the designer: Ed Horstman was a naval architect who made his way from Montana to California via the U.S. Air Force where was trained as a helicopter mechanic before serving 4 years in Korea. After the war on the GI Bill, Ed attended the Northrop Institute of Technology where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He then worked for aviation giants like Boeing, Douglas Aircraft (on the A4 program), and North American Aircraft where he did wind tunnel tests for the XB-70 supersonic bomber. As an engineer and after developing an affinity for sailing, he attended courses on hydrodynamics at USC, Ed Horstman designs started in 1960 with the TRI-STAR 40. TRI-STAR 40 was the first Trimaran to race in the Multihull Transpack race to Hawaii in 1966; taking second place. TORTUGA TOO, a TRI-STAR 39 was the first Trimaran (Sept 1979) to sail from east to west around Cape Horn, experiencing 100 mph winds. Crewed by Husband and Wife who previously built a TRI-STAR 35 and sailed it that to Africa!!
