Marrying elegant and timeless good looks with modern technology, Motoryacht My Spirit is a wave-piercing catamaran built in 2005 and refitted in 2016. She won Super Yacht of the year in 2005 for her revolutionary approach to design, efficiency, stability and construction - she was truly ahead of her time.
The Brett Bakewell White designed catamaran footprint allows for a significant floorplan over her 35m of Length, her 10.8m Beam creating over 300GT of volume. The wide decks and multiple outdoor entertaining areas provide an equivalent floorplan to what you would see in a 45-50m vessel, with the benefits of a much smaller footprint. The Carbon Fiber/Epoxy build allows an extremely efficient operation - using up to 40% less fuel than equivalent mono hull vessels - for an ecologically conscious operation.
The wide beam provides not just amazing natural stability, but also incredibly shallow draft - just 2.1m or just under 7’ - allowing access to anchorages not normally accessible of a vessel of this volume. Another benefit of the Wave Piercing hull design is not just the movement through the ocean (splitting waves rather than trying to displace them), but also allowing two completely separate engine rooms, providing redundancy and peace of mind when cruising remote areas.
My Spirit provides huge outdoor entertaining areas, starting with the aft deck. Each hull provides a lower cockpit area for easy access, as well as storage for the two Jet Ski’s. The Huge hydraulic swim platform can lower to 1 meter below water, allowing easy access to Divers and Swimmers (as well as launching and retrieving the large BRIG RIB Navigator tender with 2016 Yamaha 100hp outboard), or raise up with the lower side cockpit areas to form an amazing beach club.
When fully raised, the platform creates a massive entertaining space providing both open air and covered areas for lounging and dining, the modular furniture giving a multitude of choice of entertainment options. When operating as a toy launch facility, the platform can provide fast and efficient launch times, saving crew workload and maximising your time on the water.
The engine room access points are discretely located in the port and starboard corners of this main deck area, while the side walk around decks offer incredibly wide access up the sides of the vessel - with high sides for safety and security.
Access to the main salon is via an electrically operated rear door, providing an awe inspiring view through the guest lounge and formal dining area. The immense width of this area (over 8m wide) and open plan layout provides the feeling of being on a much larger ship than just 35m. The formal dining area is serviced by a discrete wet bar, the lounge enjoying a 42” TV raising from a timber cabinet. The surround sound and entertainment systems are as expected on a world class Superyacht.
Moving forwards to the lobby, we are greeted by a work of art carbon fiber spiral staircase - a masterstroke piece by renown Interior Designer Ken Freivokh. The construction for the staircase costing hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless man hours, was designed to be a statement piece of the vessel - something it truly achieved. Ahead of the lobby is the on-deck Captain’s cabin to port, with access to the laundry and 2 crew cabins downstairs, and the on-deck Galley to starboard, again with access down to another 2 crew cabins and walk in cool-room/crew mess or pantry area. The ability to accommodate up to 10 crew is a unique feature in a vessel of this size, and would be double what could normally be provided on a 35m monohull. Multiple crew bunks and rest areas provide the ability to provide not only exceptional service, but also happy crew. The galley deserves a special mention, with top class appliances, huge storage and bench space, and with its own opening side door for fresh air and discrete serving pathways to guests dining either indoors or outdoors. The Chef loves the galley on My Spirit, allowing her the chance to not just create Michelin quality meals, but also store goods for long periods away from shore.
Further forward is a second lobby (with natural light from beautiful overhead crystal orbs, allowing light to flood in from from the Bridge deck), with the choice of 4 recently renovated VIP cabins. Having this all on the same level gives easy access along with total silence whilst underway as the suites are well above the water. Twin Queen berth cabins are supported by twin modular cabins, giving the choice or a double, twin bunks, or triple bunks - each cabin with a generous head area.
Moving upstairs is where you begin to see the benefits of the Bakewell White design - taking advantage of the full length and breadth of the footprint. From the bow we have an open air entertaining area, with 6 person heated jacuzzi/entertaining area. Again, wide teak walkways take advantage of the volume of the vessel, the highly polished stainless rails and equipment gleaming in the sun. The wheel house is positioned in the middle of the vessel and accessed by port and starboard watertight doors, The ability to passage make from a pilothouse like My Spirit is hugely beneficial, giving tremendous views in air conditioned comfort. The pilothouse offers dedicated seats for 2 crew, as well as side lounges for guests, an Engineer’s command station and a full Commercial workstation for the Captain. The helm often reminds clients of something of Start Trek, with late model IMO approved navigation equipment, adjustable helm chairs, multiple workstations and a blacked out interior for night time operation.
Aft of the Pilothouse is the owners Cabin and office, along with another pièce de résistance, a private balcony. The owner or principal charterer on My Spirit wants for nothing, with a huge sized cabin (again something normally seen on a much larger vessel), two huge private office areas, huge sized bathroom and huge sized balcony aft. The cabin is flooded by natural light, amazing penthouse views, and is everything that an owner could wish for in a Superyacht - being on the upper level, they are rewarded with serene privacy, space and a lavish fit out.
Moving even further upstairs is another “Easter egg”, the upper flybridge area. Providing either open air or protection from clears, the Flybridge gives another helm area for navigating, as well as a huge bar area for guest relaxation. Sunset Cocktails for this tri-deck position give an enviable view and experience, just another of the unique entertainment scenario’s that My Spirit provides.
Beyond the hyperbole of the interior and features of the vessel, it is the ride and motion through the water that makes My Spirit so special. The unique design of the long, thin, low displacement wave piercing hulls and special shape of the wing deck nacelle creates a naturally comfortable ride through most conditions - as opposed to the mechanical stabilization needed in monohulls. This natural stabilization is enhanced by the creation of a cushion of air below the wing deck area and offers a predictable and comfortable motion, involving not just side to side roll reduction but also pitching motion, and is impossible to break down! Mechanical fin or gyro stabilizers require power, cooling and computers - My Spirit needs none of these to remain stable. Another benefit of the motion of the wave piercing design is very little wake, great for preventing shore/reef erosion issues, but also brilliant for Sportfishing and trolling lures and baits! Especially for fishing, My Spirit comes equipped with a stern driving station, outriggers and an enviable record of Pelagic species caught over the years.
Also worthy of comment is the Commercial construction levels adhered to of ABS Class, IMO and LY2 - providing multiple safety, redundancy and Navigation/ Computing benefits. My Spirit has not only been built for autonomous operation in remote areas, she actually does so. Locations like Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, transfers from Singapore to Darwin - all achieved safely and economically. There is an undisputed reverence about what My Spirit has done and continues to do, which should fill any prospective buyer with confidence.
This confidence is rewarded by the packaging of the Spirit Luxury Charters Pty Ltd business with the sale of My Spirit. Since establishment in 2016, the charter business has grown in recognition, and has created arguably Australia’s best Charter operation and in 2019 winning the prestigious Australian Voyage of the Year award. Her new and repeat client business has been strong through dramatic events like COVID, and is showing a strong 2021 forward charter book of forward bookings. With enquiry levels at an all-time high, a savvy buyer can take advantage of potentially a cash flow positive business to supplement their own personal use.
Motoryacht My Spirit is not just a great vessel and business. The boat has an aura about it that has resulted in awards, street appeal and very happy charter guests and owner.
